Yankees Split On Trading For Madison Bumgarner

Jun 28, 2019 8:09 AM

The New York Yankees are split internally on trading for Madison Bumgarner before the July 31 deadline.

New York's executives like the idea of adding Bumgarner for the playoff push, but the analytics department may suggest otherwise.

In 16 career playoff games, the left-hander is 8-3 with a 2.11 ERA.

"I'm the same guy I was in 2014, contrary to popular belief," Bumgarner said. "I know that gets said a lot, 'Oh, he's not the same guy he used to be.' That's just … wrong. Numbers are what they are right now, but let's just wait to the end of the season. And we'll check. Maybe they won't be there and maybe they will. All I know is, the last two years, the stuff was a little different rushing back from two injuries. Now? How I feel is the same. My stuff is the same."

However, Bumgarner has a 4.21 ERA this season.

Marcus Stroman Would Welcome Trade To Yankees

Jun 26, 2019 9:56 AM

Marcus Stroman isn't scheduled to pitch while the Toronto Blue Jays play a series at the New York Yankees this week, but the pitcher still fielded plenty of questions on Monday.

Stroman has been linked to the Yankees in trade rumors.

"I love the bright lights. I am built for this," the right-hander said of pitching under pressure.

Stroman is under team control through the 2020 season.

"Obviously I'm on the Blue Jays and love everything about Toronto and this organization," Stroman said. "I try to keep that in the back of my head because, obviously, you hear rumors all the time. I'm from New York and I'm a New York boy. That kind of says everything for itself.

"I love pitching [at Yankee Stadium]. New York is like the mecca of the world. I love excitement, the bright lights, competition, I love pressure. I always loved pitching here. I haven't necessarily pitched well. I always enjoyed it. Yankee lineups are brutal. They are kind of hard to navigate. I love the spotlight. The bigger the moment, that's what I kind of wanted it to be."

Athletics Hoping To Fortify Bullpen

Jun 25, 2019 8:04 AM

The Oakland Athletics recently lost starter Frankie Montas to an 80-game suspension, but they appear focused on bolstering the bullpen prior to the trade deadline.

"I think the bullpen is probably the first place we look, not because we don't like the group we have here but because it's been less consistent than it was last year – which was inevitable," David Frost said on the A's Plus podcast.

Oakland's bullpen has a 4.32 ERA this season, up from 3.80 in 2018.

Mariners View Mitch Haniger As Building Block, Not Trade Chip

Jun 24, 2019 8:40 AM

The Seattle Mariners have made an effort to deal any veterans with trade value, but there may not be more moves coming.

Jerry Dipoto said on MLB Network Radio that most of the players remaining on the club's roster are building blocks for the future, including Mitch Haniger.

"We've got a very young and inexperienced roster," Dipoto said. "And some of the guys that we do have here that attract the most trade attention, particularly guys like Mitch Haniger, they're critical to our growth. At some point, you do have to build around something."

Haniger is currently on the injured list.

Trade Interest In Madison Bumgarner Has Been 'Modest'

Jun 25, 2019 8:18 AM

Madison Bumgarner was expected to be one of the most coveted pitchers on the trade market this summer, but that has yet to be the case.

Interest in the San Francisco Giants' left-hander has been "modest," according to a report.

The Giants were hoping to get a huge package for Bumgarner, but he's been ineffective this season.

Indians Unlikely To Trade Corey Kluber

Jun 21, 2019 10:05 AM

The Cleveland Indians are unlikely to trade Corey Kluber during the season, even if he returns to the mound.

Kluber has been sidelined since May 1 with a fractured ulna in his right forearm.

The right-hander has club options of $17.5 million ($1 million buyout) and $18 million ($1 million buyout) for 2020 and '21, respectively.

If he's traded before this offseason, the acquiring team will need to decide whether to exercise or decline both options at the same time, which may be a tough call.
