Beltran Would OK Trade To Contender

Oct 14, 2014 9:39 PM

Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran wouldn't object to a trade prior to baseball's July 31 non-waiver deadline. Teammates Jose Reyes and Francisco Rodriguez has publicly stated that they would prefer to remain in New York. "This is a business," Beltran told The New York Post. He holds a full no-trade and can block any deal, but indicated he's willing to waive that clause should Mets general manager Sandy Alderson come up with the right deal. "The team is always going to do what is best for the team, and as a player you have to make a decision if the trade makes sense or not," Beltran said.

Rays Willing To Add To Payroll

Oct 15, 2014 6:37 PM

The Rays are contending in the American League East and it is possible that the team could add to their $41 million payroll in the coming month. Baseball's non-waiver trade deadline is July 31. "I can not imagine a time we wouldn't be in position to do that. Winning is still paramount to everything we do," Rays owner Stuart Sternberg said. "Doing what's best for this organization is paramount to everything we do. ... That'll always be an option. But obviously we weigh that for what it means for future years, both what we're able to spend in future years and playes that we'll have in future years."

Astros Unlikely To Trade Pence

Dec 8, 2014 4:01 AM

It remains unlikely that the Astros will trade Hunter Pence before the July 31 deadline. However, the likelihood could increase if new owner Jim Crane is approved before the end of July and he orders such a move. The organization views him as a core player, but he's getting pricey and Houston could get a lot in return because a number of contenders are seeking a right-handed bat.
