Rays Deal Inglett To Astros

Sep 19, 2014 8:06 PM

The Rays have traded infielder Joe Inglett to the Astros. Inglett was baseball's best pinch hitter last season. Tampa Bay will receive cash and a player to be named as compensation. The Astros will use the final few days of spring training to look at him as a potential left-handed bat off the bench.

Cubs Looking To Trade Silva

Oct 29, 2014 6:05 AM

The Cubs are looking to trade pitcher Carlos Silva, who says the team misled him about his role this spring. Silva also threw new pitching coach Mark Riggins under the bus for the way Riggins told him he wouldn't make the team. "It's very clear they knew what they were doing," said Silva, who thought it was "weird" last week when the Cubs scheduled him to back up Carlos Zambrano with a three-inning relief outing. "I was like, 'Something's going on. Maybe they know who's going to be the fifth starter.' . . . Don't say people are competing for a spot because it wasn't true. Nobody was competing for a spot. They already [had] their rotation decided. It was very clear." The team's version of events is far different, with more than one member of the organization using the word "delusional" to describe Silva's perspective.

Asking Price For Michael Young May Be Dropping

Jun 25, 2014 7:34 AM

The Rangers are still asking for top-end prospects in a deal for third baseman Michael Young and they still haven't found a taker. Texas continues to make calls and they now are willing to eat about half of the $48 million he's owed over the remainder of his contract.

Reds Happy With Surplus Of Catchers

Jun 2, 2014 6:50 AM

The Reds have a number of capable catchers, but they aren't necessarily looking to move any of them. They recently locked up Ryan Hanigan with a long-term extension and Cincinnati also has Ramon Hernandez, prospect Devin Mesoraco, veteran Corky Miller at Triple-A and last year's top pick Yasmani Grandal at Double-A. Teams have been calling about the seeming surplus. "It's a strength for us," general manager Walt Jocketty said. "I really don't want to take away from a strength. It can be very fragile."

Davis Wants Trade If Rangers Don't Have Room For Him

Feb 13, 2014 1:48 PM

Chris Davis wants the Rangers to trade him if they don't have room for him on their major-league roster. "I just want to be in the big leagues, whether it's here or somewhere else," Davis said. "In all fairness, I've done everything the Rangers have asked me to do. I've been a good sport about it. I've had a smile on my face and a good attitude about it. When it comes down to it, the fair thing to do is to give me a shot either here or somewhere else." Davis, who turns 25 on Thursday, has sparked interest from other teams. He understands that he may have to begin the season at the Triple-A level. "I'm fighting for a job, whether it's with this team or another organization," Davis said. "My job every day is to go out there and open a pair of eyes and make somebody say, 'Hey, maybe we could use Chris Davis on our team.' I think I've been doing a pretty good job of that lately."

White Sox Open To Dealing Teahen

Jun 8, 2014 8:08 PM

The White Sox are open to trading Mark Teahen rather than making him a high-priced utility-man to begin the 2011 season. Chicago manager Ozzie Guillen thinks he can find 350 at-bats for Teahen as a reserve, but he is guaranteed $4.75 million this season and $5.5 million in 2012.

Phillies Aren't Looking For Infielder

Apr 23, 2014 10:34 AM

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. insists that the team isn't looking to acquire an infielder to help provide depth. All-Star second baseman Chase Utley has been dealing with knee issues this spring. "Those rumors about us acquiring a 3rd baseman or 2nd baseman...They're all B.S.," Amaro Jr. said.

Silva Being Scouted By Nats, Yankees

Sep 9, 2014 3:53 PM

Carlos Silva is trying to earn a rotation spot with the Cubs, but this spring appears to also have served as an audition for other clubs. Numerous scouts, including three from the Nationals, watched Silva pitch against the Reds on Saturday. In addition to the Nationals, the Yankees have been following Silva this spring, according to sources.
