Kazmir Keeps Options Open On Demanding Trade This Winter

Jun 19, 2014 2:20 AM

Scott Kazmir will have the option to demand a trade from the Angels this winter. The Angels acquired Kazmir from the Rays for three prospects on Friday. Because Kazmir was traded in the middle of a multi-year contract, he can force a move. However, the pitcher isn't worried about making a decision just yet. "I'm looking at this year right now," Kazmir told the Los Angeles Times. "That's all I can think of. "I would love to finish out my contract here, in an organization like this. I'm lucky to be a part of it."

The Twins are looking to land Rich Harden in order to help catch the Tigers in the AL Central. Minnesota is 4 1/2 games behind Detroit entering Monday's action. Kazmir Still Expected To Be Dealt To Angels

Sep 25, 2014 8:13 PM

Scott Kazmir is expected to be dealt to the Angels following Friday's game. "There's a lot of speculation out there," said Mike Scioscia. "There is nothing imminent." He wouldn't comment specifically on Kazmir, and declined to define "imminent." According to the Los Angeles Times, the Angels are expected to send the Rays LHP Alex Torres, a 21-year-old from Venezuela who was 13-4, 2.75 between Class A and AA this season, and 3B Matt Sweeney, 21, an 8th round pick in the 2006 draft who is hitting .299 with 9 homers and 44 RBIs at Class A. MLB.com reported that the deal may have fallen through.

Harden, Heilman Claimed On Waivers

Aug 7, 2014 8:35 AM

A report on foxsports.com said Aaron Heilman and starting pitcher Rich Harden have been claimed, most likely by National League clubs. The Cubs did not wish to comment on the report. If the report is accurate, the Cubs have until Monday to either allow the pitchers to be claimed by the other teams, work out trades or pull the pitchers off waivers and keep them the rest of the year. Heilman is eligible for salary arbitration this coming off-season while Harden becomes a free agent. "It's news to me; I don't know," said Heilman, for whom the Cubs traded last off-season. "I guess we wait and see what happens. Definitely a little bit, it would surprise me."

Giants, Rockies, Marlins Interested In Brad Penny

Sep 16, 2014 11:19 PM

The Colorado Rockies, San Francisco Giants and Florida Marlins are all interested in acquiring Brad Penny. Boston placed Penny on waivers this week. The interested teams would probably like to have him after he clears waivers, which could be on Monday. If Penny clears waivers, he would cost any team that acquired him only about $100,000 for the rest of the season.

Bronson Arroyo does not want to be dealt to a contender, hoping to win in Cincinnati next season. ?If they hadn?t picked up Scott Rolen, then I would have felt they didn?t have much going on, wouldn?t be going in the right direction,? he said. ?But they picked him up, and that gave me a boost. ... Let?s see if we can get over the hump with a healthy Jay Bruce and a healthy Joey Votto and Scott Rolen.?

Source: Wagner Nixes Deal To Boston

Jun 20, 2014 2:54 PM

Billy Wagner is staying with the Mets. A league source told FOX Sports that the reliever will use his no-trade clause rather than accept a deal to the Red Sox. Boston wouldn't meet both of Wagner's demands. He wanted assurance that they would decline his $8 million team option for 2010, which they provided. However, the Sox wouldn't guarantee that they would decline to offer Wagner salary arbitration, making him a free agent without draft-pick compensation. "It's not about the option or arbitration. It's about his desire to end the year healthy for the future," the source added. "He feels he has a better chance lasting a month in a less competitive environment than perhaps two months in a pennant race and playoffs."
