Trade Rumor - Baseball Wiretap
Cubs May Be Dangling Zambrano
A pair of American League officials told the New York Post that the Cubs are shopping pitcher Carlos Zambrano.
Zambrano has three-years and $53.75 million left on his contract.
The same officials say Zambrano, for comfort reasons, has no desire to waive his no-trade clause and leave Chicago.
Dodgers Won't Break Up Young Core
The Dodgers are seeking payroll flexibility, but sources say that they are unlikely to trade any of their top arbitration-eligible players.
Los Angeles, sources say, essentially is limited to cash-neutral transactions due to the divorce proceedings between owner Frank McCourt and his wife.
If the Dodgers were to sign a free agent, they'd have to subtract a player of similar cost.
Nothing To Rumors Of Deal Between Cubs, Red Sox And Padres
There has been speculation that the Cubs, Red Sox and Padres have discussed a three-team, blockbuster trade.
In the rumored deal, Jacoby Ellsbury and Clay Buchholz would land in Chicago and Adrian Gonzalez would end up in Boston.
The whispers were shot down on Monday.
Although the Red Sox and Cubs have talked lately, a three-team deal involving San Diego hasn't been mentioned.
Rockies, Cubs Discussing Spilborghs Trade
Sources told ESPNChicago.com that the Cubs and Rockies are discussing a trade that would send outfielder Ryan Spilborghs to Chicago.
Spilborghs would become the fourth outfielder for the Cubs, who previously used Reed Johnson in the role.
Braves Could Use Melky To Get Uggla
The Braves are still looking to improve their offense this winter.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes that they could use recently-acquired center fielder Melky Cabrera to get second baseman Dan Uggla from the Marlins.
If not Cabrera, the Braves could use another outfielder to land a slugger.
Indians May Put Carmona On Market
The Indians won't say that he's available, but pitcher Fausto Carmona could be placed on the trade market.
"He's got one of the best three sinkers in the game," an NL executive told the Boston Globe.
Carmona is likely a middle-to-back-end of the rotation guy.
Time Is Right For Giants To Swing Deal
The Giants haven't made any huge moves this offseason, but with the Dodgers struggling in the NL West, now is the time for general manager Brian Sabean to make a run at the division.
San Francisco's offense needs work as the rotation is solid with Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain headlining it.
The Giants are rumored to be close to re-signing Juan Uribe and they have been linked to Mark DeRosa lately as well.
Dan Uggla is another bat that San Francisco would benefit from adding.
Twins Unlikely To Pursue Uggla
The Twins need help in the infield but they are unlikely to make a play for Marlins second baseman Dan Uggla.
Minnesota has no set starter at second or third base, but ESPN points out that they don't have the prospect inventory to enter talks with Florida.
However, they could call San Diego back and restart the negotiations for third baseman Kevin Kouzmannof.
Padres Would Get Better Value By Waiting To Deal Gonzalez
The Padres could get better value in return for first baseman Adrian Gonzalez if they wait to deal him, writes Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports.
Morosi writes that Gonzalez's value would be very high around the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. He'll be as close to free agency as Mark Teixeira was back in 2007 when the Rangers dealt him to the Braves and got Elvis Andrus and Neftali Feliz in return.
As long as there are free-agent options at first base, Morosi believes that it will be hard for San Diego general manager Jed Hoyer to have much leverage in trade talks.
Marlins Continue To Shop Uggla
With a trade to the Giants unlikely, the Marlins will have to get creative in how they shop second baseman Dan Uggla.
San Francisco is reluctant to give up pitcher Jonathan Sanchez for Uggla, so the Miami Herald writes that Florida will need to reengage talks with Baltimore, Texas and Atlanta.
They haven't fully ruled out keeping him if they can't find a good deal.
