Dye Unfazed By Trade Rumors
White Sox outfielder Jermaine Dye has once again heard his name pop up in trade rumors, but the veteran has been unfazed by the hot stove talk.
"I've heard it more from my agent or my sister or my mom or my dad, calling me and telling me I was traded," said Dye on Friday. "I just told them that I didn't get a phone call.
"Once I know, you'll know. To be honest, I've been having fun with other things."
Tigers Could Trade A Starter Or Two
The Tigers have seven healthy pitchers, and General Manager Dave Dombrowski says that there are "possibilities" for trades.
Detroit has Justin Verlander, Jeremy Bonderman, Armando Galarraga, Edwin Jackson, Nate Robertson, Dontrelle Willis, and Zach Miner under contract.
Sources: O's, Cubs Talking Deal For Hill
The Orioles and Cubs are reportedly discussing a trade that would send pitcher Rich Hill to Baltimore.
"We are talking to them," Orioles club president Andy MacPhail said about the Cubs. "We are talking to a lot of teams about a lot of players."
A source indicated that the deal is "very likely" and that the Orioles could send the Cubs a player to be determined later based on Hill's success on the mound.
Cubs To Acquire Aaron Heilman
The Chicago Cubs are on the verge of acquiring right-hander Aaron Heilman from the Mariners.
In exchange for Heilman, the Mariners will receive shortstop Ronny Cedeno and a minor-league pitcher, according to major-league sources. Heilman, long coveted by Cubs general manager Jim Hendry, will compete for the Cubs' fifth-starter job or pitch out of their bullpen.
Yankees Still Looking To Deal Nady Or Swisher?
The Yankees are now expected to begin spring training with the team they currently have, but they still have a spare outfielder and could deal Xavier Nady or Nick Swisher for the right price.
New York's payroll is approaching last year's $209 million, and they seem prepared to stop spending.
"I wouldn't expect anything further at this stage, or anything significant," general manager Brian Cashman said. "The family has allowed us to do so much this winter, and we hope all this stuff plays out well for us in the summer."
Peavy Trade Could Follow Cubs' Sale
The Cubs could reportedly make a serious play to land pitcher Jake Peavy from the Padres once the sale of the Chicago franchise is finalized later this spring.
However, neither team indicated Monday that the sides are actively re-engaged on the trade.
In earlier rumors of the deal, other teams were involved.
Uggla Unlikely To Be Dealt
The Marlins are unlikely to trade Dan Uggla.
"Everyone is on the trading block, but some players are more likely than others to get traded and I would certainly put him in the less-likely (category) as we speak today," Marlins' President David Samson said Wednesday.
Cubs Deal Felix Pie To Orioles
With Felix Pie out of options, the Cubs have reached agreement with the Orioles on a deal that will send him to Baltimore for left-hander Garrett Olson and Class A right-hander Henry Williamson, according to major-league sources.
Pie, rated the Cubs' No. 1 prospect by Baseball America in 2007, has yet to prove he can hit in the majors, batting .223 with a .284 on-base percentage in 287 career plate appearances.
