Mar 7, 2022 8:17 AM

A number of Major League teams have asked the league about the possibility of canceling the Rule 5 draft for this season, according to sources.

In the draft, teams can select players who aren't on 40-man rosters and pay $100,000 for their rights but must keep them on their 26-man Major League roster for the entire season.

No decision has been made on the Major League portion of the Rule 5 draft this season, per sources.

MLB, MLBPA Planning To Implement 12-Team Playoff

Mar 1, 2022 8:03 AM

Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association are reportedly in agreement on a 12-team playoff in the upcoming collective bargaining agreement.

The league has long desired an expanded postseason field in negotiations. MLB had pushed to expand from the previous 10-team field up to 14 clubs throughout discussions, but the union had resisted that possibility.
