Alex Bregman Wins ASG MVP After Go-Ahead Home Run In 10th

Jul 18, 2018 7:04 AM

Alex Bregman was named the MVP of Tuesday night's All-Star Game after he hit a go-ahead home run for the American League in the 10th inning.

Bregman's home run was one of a record 10 in the game.

"There's a great love affair with both results. I mean, to kind of empty your tank and hit homers tonight at this event is probably the best thing imaginable," A.J. Hinch said. "Just to have that kind of emotion that comes with the home run, especially when the big boys hit it and especially when the [Houston] Astros hit it."

The 24-year-old is a first-time All-Star in his third season.

Aroldis Chapman To Skip All-Star Game

Jul 16, 2018 8:28 AM

Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman has pulled out of the All-Star Game, saying Friday it was a difficult decision but that he wants to rest because of left knee tendinitis.

"Definitely a tough decision," Chapman said through an interpreter. "It's an honor to be selected to an All-Star Game. Your peers vote for you, the managers, fans and all that. And anytime you have an opportunity like that, you want to participate.

"But at the end of the day, it was the smart decision for me to help me recover and get ready for the second half, one that's going to be very demanding and very exciting."

Jesus Aguilar, Jean Segura Win All-Star Game Final Vote

Jul 12, 2018 7:46 AM

Jesus Aguilar and Jean Segura have been named to the All-Star Game via the Final Vote.

The Seattle Mariners shortstop and Milwaukee Brewers first baseman won the online fan votes for the final roster spots on the American League and National League teams, respectively.

"It was unbelievable," Segura said. "I can't believe all those people around the world, the fans, the marketing, the organization, the people in Seattle, my teammates, even Felix [Hernandez] yesterday going around the city trying to get some votes for me. It just feels amazing. It feels special. You come from another country and you see how the people support you around the world, it makes it even more special."

The 89th All-Star Game will be held Tuesday at Nationals Park in Washington.

Jul 10, 2018 8:02 AM

Max Muncy says he'll take part in next week's Home Run Derby at Nationals Park in Washington.

The Los Angeles Dodgers slugger is also a candidate for the National League All-Star squad via the All-Star Final Vote.

Muncy, 27, leads the Dodgers with 20 homers and has hit one every 10 at-bats this season.

"I've always felt the power was there," he said last week. "It's just my swing wasn't built for hitting home runs before, whereas now, I feel like I get myself in a better position to use it."

Buster Posey To Miss All-Star Game With Injured Hip

Jul 10, 2018 7:55 AM

Buster Posey will miss the All-Star Game because of a lingering right hip issue that needs an injection to calm the inflammation.

The San Francisco Giants catcher has been bothered by the hip on and off all season.

"It's an honor to be selected to the All-Star Game. It's not something you take for granted and it's a decision I didn't come to lightly," Posey said. "Making that decision with the training staff and the medical staff, I just felt like that was going to be in my best interest and hopefully the best interest for the team as well."

Yadier Molina will replace Posey on the National League roster.

Chris Archer Calls Out Peers After Blake Snell's All-Star Snub

Jul 10, 2018 7:47 AM

Chris Archer went public with his displeasure following Blake Snell's omission from the American League All-Star roster, claiming players who vote for All-Stars "didn't do our due diligence."

In a video posted on his Instagram account, Archer said it was "a joke" that Snell, who has the best ERA in the AL, was not a unanimous All-Star selection.

"Something like that can't happen," Archer said. "He leads the league in ERA. That means he's given up the fewest amount of runs per nine innings out of any starting pitcher in the league. ... Players, coaches, managers -- we have to do a better job with the selection process so we can put the best talent out on the field for the fans in the Midsummer Classic.

"If you didn't have him on your ballot, I hope that next year you take it a little bit more serious and put in the due diligence, because this is important."

The game will be played July 17 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
