Miami Will Host 2017 All-Star Game

Feb 16, 2015 9:36 AM

The Miami Marlins will host the 2017 All-Star Game, it was announced on Friday.

Rob Manfred's announcement came at a news conference at Marlins Park.

Among those attending were Gov. Rick Scott, team owner Jeffrey Loria, and a handful of current and former players who have been All-Stars, including Giancarlo Stanton, Jose Fernandez and Gary Sheffield.

"It's great to have an All-Star Game here," Scott said. With a smile he added, "I hope we have them every year now."

Manfred: MLB To Use Bidding-System For All-Star Game

Feb 9, 2015 8:44 AM

Baseball intends to stop awarding the All-Star Game by alternating leagues and will move toward a Super Bowl-type bidding process, commissioner Rob Manfred told ESPN.com on Thursday.

That process would begin with the 2017 game, because the 2016 game has already been awarded to San Diego. The new system would change a practice that has been in place for the last 82 years, in which All-Star Games were generally awarded by alternating National League and American League cities, barring unusual circumstances.
