Bautista To Talk To Abreu About HR Derby

Sep 25, 2014 6:48 PM

Jose Bautista plans to talk with Jose Abreu about competing in next month's Home Run Derby when the Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago White Sox face off this weekend.

Bautista is the captain of the American League's derby squad.

"He's a guy that's on my short list, but I have to talk to him and see what he says and we'll take it from there," Bautista said.

Abreu's 23 home runs rank third in the AL, but he said earlier this week that he thinks the derby would negatively affect his swing.

Darvish Prefers Sightseeing To Pitching In All-Star Game

Sep 18, 2014 6:18 AM

Yu Darvish says he likely would opt for sightseeing over pitching if he's selected to the American League All-Star team for the third consecutive season.

Darvish is scheduled to make three more starts before the break, including one that would come two days before the July 15 All-Star Game.

The Japanese pitcher shook his head "no" several times Thursday when asked whether he'd be willing to pitch an inning in the All-Star Game if he stays on that schedule. He then said through his translator that he'd go sightseeing while in Minnesota if on the AL squad.

Bautista, Tulowitzki Named Captains For HR Derby

Oct 31, 2014 7:05 AM

Jose Bautista and Troy Tulowitzki have been named the captains for next month's Home Run Derby at the All-Star Game.

"To be the captain, I don't know if that's something I'm looking forward to because of how tough the decisions are going to be," Tulowitzki said. "You can't put everybody that wants to participate on your team. So with that, you open yourself up.

"But, at the same time, I'm honored to be the National League captain."

The event will be held July 14 at Target Field.

Bautista is a two-time major league home run champion. Tulowitzki has hit at least 25 homers in three of the past four seasons.
