Diamondbacks Get Deal To Leave Chase Field By 2022

May 10, 2018 9:02 AM

The Arizona Diamondbacks can leave Chase Field to find a new home by 2022 without penalty following a vote by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.

Last week, the Diamondbacks reached an agreement with the Maricopa County Stadium District to allow them to leave Chase Field up to five years early if it drops a lawsuit demanding $187 million in upgrades.

The Diamondbacks have played at Chase Field in downtown Phoenix since 1998, when they joined Major League Baseball as an expansion club.

Diamondbacks, Maricopa County Reach Agreement Regarding Stadium Lease

May 4, 2018 7:56 AM

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Maricopa County have reached a preliminary agreement that will allow the club to immediately begin searching for construction sites on a new stadium.

The agreement is under the condition that the Diamondbacks drop a preexisting $187 million lawsuit against the county that was brought in 2017 after ownership alleged that the county neglected to abide by contractually agreed upon maintenance and repair obligations.

According to a report, the agreement would allow the Diamondbacks to leave Chase Field in 2022, five years before the end of the initial 30-year lease, if the proposed construction site is in Maricopa County.
