MLB RSNs Have Dominated TV Ratings

Ratings for the regional sports networks that air local Major League Baseball teams have been dominant this summer.

Eleven regional sports networks rank No. 1 among all TV networks on nights they play, up from 10 last season. The New York Yankees are nearly the 12th to rank No. 1.

Over two-thirds of the league see ratings across network and cable rank in the top 3 in their respective market.

RSNs also have higher rankings than ESPN in every market.

Derek Jeter's Group Buying Marlins For $1.2 Billion

Derek Jeter is amongst a group of investors finalizing a deal to buy the Miami Marlins from Jeffrey Loria for $1.2 billion.

New York-based venture capitalist Bruce Sherman is leading the purchase group. Jeter is investing $25 million of his own money and will run the baseball side of the operation.

Jeter resides in Tampa and has long had interest in owning a franchise.

The Sherman-Jeter group, which also includes former NBA great Michael Jordan, beat out a contingent led by Miami businessman Jorge Mas. Quogue Capital founder Wayne Rothbaum, who led a third group that included former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, dropped out of the bidding earlier this week.

Former Phillies All-Star Darren Daulton Dies At Age 55

Former Phillies All-Star catcher Darren Daulton has died at age 55, the team said Sunday.

Daulton was diagnosed with cancer in 2013 and went into remission in 2015. He was a key part of and leader on the 1993 Phillies team that surprised by winning the National League pennant and lost to the Blue Jays in six games in the World Series.
