Hector Olivera was found guilty on a misdemeanor domestic assault charge in a Virginia courtroom and was ordered to serve 10 days in jail on Thursday.

The former Atlanta Braves outfielder appeared before an Arlington County (Va) General District Court judge, who presided over, issued the guilty verdict and levied the sentence on the assault charge in a bench trial.

He was sentenced to 90 days in jail, although the judge suspended 80 days of that sentence. He hasn't appeared in a Major League game since his arrest in April.

Major League Baseball put Olivera on paid leave and he later suspended 82 games by the league under MLB's Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy.

The Braves dealt Olivera to the San Diego Padres in July in exchange for slugger Matt Kemp. The Padres waived Olivera in August and he remains a free agent.
