Protesters Cause Disturbance Near Camden Yards

Apr 27, 2015 8:21 AM

Thousands of protesters took to the streets Saturday in the largest Freddie Gray rally yet, and after hours of peaceful demonstrations, pockets of protesters smashed out police car windows and storefronts.

Two people were hurt in the mayhem, and at least a dozen were arrested. The problems happened near Camden Yards, where the Orioles game against the Red Sox went on as scheduled, only fans were told toward the end of the game to stay in the stadium because of public safety worries.

The protesters blocked an intersection near the stadium for several hours and had a tense standoff with police Saturday night. The protesters were eventually cleared.

An announcement was made to the crowd at Camden Yards in the ninth inning asking fans to remain in the ballpark until further notice because of an "ongoing public safety issue." They were allowed to leave after a walk-off home run gave the Orioles a win in 10 innings.

Bonds Has Obstruction Conviction Thrown Out

Apr 23, 2015 7:46 AM

After more than 11 years in court, Barry Bonds has been cleared in a federal court of appeals.

Baseball's all-time home run leader had his obstruction of justice conviction thrown out on Wednesday. The ruling was 10-1 that his answer before a grand jury in 2003 was not material to the government's investigation into illegal performance-enhancing drugs distribution.

"Today's news is something that I have long hoped for," Bonds said in a statement. "I am humbled and truly thankful for the outcome as well as the opportunity our judicial system affords to all individuals to seek justice."

Bonds broke Hank Aaron's long-standing career record of 755 homers in 2007, finished that season with 762 and was indicted that December for his testimony before a grand jury investigating the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative, in which he answered a question about injections by saying he was "a celebrity child."

"I think sadly his reputation has been tarnished, not because of the indictment or the reversal, but because of all the PED use," former baseball commissioner Fay Vincent said. "I think the public has made up its mind."

Josh Hamilton Files For Divorce From Wife

Apr 20, 2015 8:30 AM

Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton is in the process of getting divorced from his wife, Katie, according to court documents filed in North Texas.

The petition doesn't detail the couple's problems, but it cites conflict between them as a reason for the divorce. Hamilton has a long history of substance abuse problems and earlier this year he self-reported a relapse.

Hamilton outlined 34 requests in the petition. Among the requests: prohibiting his wife from using a Maserati and 1972 Chevrolet Blazer in his possession; prohibiting her from "hiding" the children from him; prohibiting her from making disparaging remarks against him or his family.

Moreno: Not Sure If Hamilton Will Play For Angels Again

Apr 13, 2015 7:43 AM

Angels owner Arte Moreno isn't certain Josh Hamilton will play for the team again after his latest relapse into substance abuse.

Moreno also says the outfielder's contract contains language protecting the team against a relapse by Hamilton, apparently contradicting his previous statements.
