Jayson Werth has pleaded guilty to reckless driving and has been sentenced to five days in jail for driving 105 mph on the Capital Beltway.

Werth was convicted last month in Fairfax County and sentenced to 10 days in jail, but he appealed his conviction to Circuit Court.

Ernie Banks' family has announced that the Cubs Hall of Fame shortstop died after suffering a heart attack.

Banks, a two-time National League MVP who spent his entire major league career with the Cubs, died Friday at the age of 83.

Former Major League Baseball pitcher Ted Lilly has been charged in California with three felonies related to insurance fraud, according to a newspaper report.

The charges stem from allegedly false insurance claims filed last year connected to Lilly's damaged recreational vehicle.

In an effort to find some closure after the confrontational Biogenesis case that led to his season-long drug suspension, Alex Rodriguez met with new commissioner Rob Manfred this week, sources confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com.

Rodriguez initiated the get-together between the two even though, with his suspension complete, he is considered in good standing in the eyes of MLB. There were no lawyers on hand, and it was said to be a positive discussion.

The New York Post first reported the meeting took place.

The Cubs announced Banks' death, but did not provide a cause.

"Words cannot express how important Ernie Banks will always be to the Chicago Cubs, the city of Chicago and Major League Baseball. He was one of the greatest players of all time," Tom Ricketts, chairman of the Cubs, said in a statement released by the team. 

Former baseball home run king and Atlanta icon Hank Aaron has joined a group of current owners from the NBA, Major League Soccer and Italian soccer's storied Serie A that is seeking to purchase the Atlanta Hawks, according to league sources.
