Angels Nearing Long-Term Deal With Anaheim

Oct 31, 2014 7:07 AM

The Anaheim City Council is expected to vote next week to enter lease negotiations with the Los Angeles Angels that could keep the team in the city through 2057.

The deal would also enable the team to drop the "of Anaheim" suffix from its name.

Under the proposed deal, the Angels would pay for a major renovation of Angel Stadium. In return, owner Arte Moreno would rent land surrounding the stadium for $1 per year and secure development rights to that land for at least 66 years.

The Angels can opt out of their stadium lease in 2016.

A delay in witness depositions in Major League Baseball's lawsuit against the now-closed Biogenesis clinic has been granted by a South Florida judge.

That provides time for attorneys to seek a longer stay while an appeals court decides whether to throw out the lawsuit.

Source: A-Rod Planning Malpractice Suit Against Yankees' Doctor

Jun 17, 2014 11:14 PM

Alex Rodriguez's legal team is planning to file a malpractice suit against the Yankees' team doctor, according to a source.

Rodriguez and his lawyers believe they have evidence that supports their contention that Chris Ahmad misdiagnosed A-Rod's hip injury during last October's playoffs.

During the 2012 playoffs, Rodriguez went 3-for-25 with no extra-base hits and 12 strikeouts. He was eventually benched by Joe Girardi.

Report: A-Rod Paid For Tony Bosch's Lawyer

Sep 21, 2014 2:34 AM

Alex Rodriguez paid for Tony Bosch's attorney and later made a wire transfer for nearly $50,000 that the attorney refused to accept, Bosch's attorneys told ESPN's "Outside the Lines."

According to several sources, the second payment was a mistake, but it turned out to be part of Major League Baseball's evidence that Rodriguez attempted to tamper with the league's Biogenesis investigation.

Bosch was the founder of the now-defunct Biogenesis clinic in Coral Gables, Fla., at the center of the league's ongoing drug scandal.

Braun Sued, Friend Alleges College Doping, Fraud

Feb 26, 2014 3:26 PM

A friend of Ryan Braun is suing the suspended slugger, charging that Braun defamed him after he provided help in the successful appeal of Braun's positive steroid test in 2011.

Ralph Sasson also made a number of personal accusations against Braun, saying in the lawsuit that Braun doped through his years at the University of Miami, committed academic fraud and accepted money while a student.

Braun's attorney, Howard Weitzman, rejected the claims.

"This lawsuit is an unfortunate attempt to capitalize on Ryan's recent press attention for taking responsibility for his actions. The factual allegations and the legal claims have absolutely no merit. We believe the lawsuit will be dismissed," he said in a statement.
