A-Rod's Lawyer Involved In Scuffle With Lawyer For Bosch

Oct 31, 2014 12:37 PM

Earlier this month, Alex Rodriguez's attorney, Joe Tacopina, and Julio Ayala, one of the lawyers representing Anthony Bosch, exchanged words during a break in legal proceedings.

The hearings relate to Rodriguez and Major League Baseball.

Ayala interrupted a conversation between Tacopina and another MLB attorney concerning how much longer Bosch would be on the stand.

Told that MLB might need several more days to question Bosch, Tacopina said, "Well, I guess we have all of October, and by then Mr. Bosch will be in jail."

"If he is, he is not going alone," Ayala is alleged to have retorted, prompting Tacopina to "bull rush" Ayala, according to a source. Tacopina was restrained before any blows could be exchanged.

A pretrial conference is set for Oct. 24 in Alex Rodriguez's federal lawsuit against Major League Baseball and Bud Selig.

The hearing will cover the procedures for the suit, which contends baseball went on a "witch hunt'' to force him from the sport.

The action comes during a grievance by the players' association to overturn a 211-game suspension given to Rodriguez by baseball on Aug. 5 for alleged violations of baseball's drug agreement and labor contract.

The proceedings for Alex Rodriguez's appeal of his 211-game suspension are on hold until next week.

The delay is because arbitrator Fredric Horowitz has other commitments.

Oct 31, 2014 12:39 PM

Albert Pujols has sued Jack Clark over comments made on a local radio show accusing him of using steroids.

The lawsuit was filed in Circuit Court in St. Louis County. It seeks unspecified damages that would be donated to charity, and asks for a determination and declaration that Clark's statements are false.

The petition says Pujols' "character and reputation are impeccable and beyond reproach" and cites his charitable work with the Pujols Family Foundation, while calling Clark "a struggling radio talk show host" who was chasing ratings in the first week his new show was on the air.

A-Rod Sues Major League Baseball

Sep 15, 2014 5:11 PM

Alex Rodriguez has filed a lawsuit in New York State Supreme Court that alleges Major League Baseball and commissioner Bud Selig have had one goal in mind: "to improperly marshal evidence that they hope to use to destroy the reputation and career of Alex Rodriguez."

The New York Yankees were not named in the suit.

"While we vehemently deny the allegations in the complaint, none of those allegations is relevant to the real issue: whether Mr. Rodriguez violated the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program by using and possessing numerous forms of prohibited performance-enhancing substances, including testosterone and human growth hormone, over the course of multiple years and whether he violated the Basic Agreement by attempting to cover-up his violations of the Program by engaging in a course of conduct intended to obstruct and frustrate the Office of the Commissioner's investigation," Major League Baseball said in a statement.

Rodriguez's publicist responded in a statement that "Mr. Rodriguez's financial damages lawsuit against Commissioner Selig and Major League Baseball in no way violates the confidentiality provisions of the Joint Drug Agreement. That accusation is preposterous -- and uniquely so coming from MLB, when many of the bases for the complaint filed by Mr. Rodriguez last night arise from MLB's willful and persistent violations of those very confidentiality provisions over the past six months, and beyond.

"As for the Collective Bargaining Agreement's discipline appeal process, Mr. Rodriguez respects the process," the statement read. "He has personally attended and participated in every minute of the arbitration proceeding that began on Monday, has continued every day this week, and will continue hereafter. Mr. Rodriguez has been a Major League Baseball Players Association member for nearly two decades, and he is appalled by the levels to which his league has stooped, as demonstrated in the complaint filed last night.

"Mr. Rodriguez eagerly awaits the day when all of this legal jostling is finished, and he can share his story with the public and his supporters. Until then, he will continue to respect the confidentiality requirements imposed upon all through this process, while his legal team continues to do what is necessary to vindicate him."
