Leyritz Says '07 Fatal Crash Not His Fault
Former major leaguer Jim Leyritz claims that the fatal car crash that killed a woman in 2007 wasn't his fault.
Leyritz has been charged with DUI manslaughter, but says that the death couldn't have been avoided.
"There was no possibility of me avoiding that crash with all of my senses," Leyritz told The Miami Herald. "A mother was taken away from her kids. I can't change that. But I didn't do it. The accident did. And that accident wasn't my fault."
Police say Leyritz was drunk when he ran a red light in his SUV and caused the accident that killed Fredia Ann Veitch, 30, in Fort Lauderdale.
Manny Suspended 50 Games For Positive Test
Manny Ramirez has tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs and will be suspended 50 games beginning Thursday, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times.
Ramirez, a baseball source told SI.com, explained to baseball officials he was uncertain he was taking a banned substance and may have had a medical reason for using the substance.
"Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was okay to give me. Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now. I do want to say one other thing; I've taken and passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons," Ramirez said in a statement released by the MLBPA.
