Boras: Clients Should Access Funds Soon

Sep 30, 2014 10:18 PM

Agent Scott Boras says that some of his clients should soon be able to access assets that were frozen in the federal probe of the Stanford financial scandal. Johnny Damon, Xavier Nady, Mike Pelfrey and Carlos Pena are just some of the players that have had their assets frozen in the scandal. "There's no risk of loss in their funds, but the government, in an attempt to protect everyone involved, put a wide net over the funds," Boras said. "Then, of course, in a short period of time that net will shrink."

Fehr Says Union Wanted 2003 Drug Tests Destroyed

Sep 30, 2014 10:29 PM

Director of the Major League Baseball Players Association, Donald Fehr, revealed some details as to why anonymous drug tests from 2003 were not destroyed before they were seized by federal agents. Fehr began making calls on Nov. 14, 2003 after learning the results of tests, and those results were subpoenaed on Nov. 19. "At that point, we were frozen," Fehr said. However, Major League Baseball doesn't believe that Fehr's stories line up. "The fact of the matter is that this would all have been prevented if they had just called and said, 'Destroy the tests.' A's Cease Efforts To Relocate To Fremont

Oct 21, 2014 4:36 PM

Athletics owner/managing partner Lew Wolff issued a statement on Tuesday regarding to team's efforts to relocate to the Fremont area. "After much consideration, today we informed Mayor Wasserman and City Council members that the Oakland Athletics will cease efforts to relocate our franchise to the City of Fremont. "I expressed my regrets and gratitude, especially to those people who shared our vision and spent endless hours in support of our proposal. However, it became increasingly clear that our ballpark project faced significant delays ahead and I could not, in good conscience, continue to lead our team down this path. "My focus now is on baseball with Spring Training and the opening of the 2009 season. I am extremely excited about the team's prospects this year. "My goal and desire for the organization is to determine a way to keep the team in Northern California. This goal has not changed."

Two Yankees Have Assets Frozen

Oct 26, 2014 11:37 PM

Yankees outfielders Johnny Damon and Xavier Nady are among investors whose accounts were caught in a freeze by the government of a company affiliated with Robert Allen Stanford. The pair did not invest directly with Stanford funds, but have investments with brokers who deal with Stanford's company. "The broker dealers the players have chosen have advised our personal management auditors the players are not in jeopardy of losing money," agent Scott Boras said. "I understand government agencies are trying to protect the investor. Hopefully, the agencies will distinguish between those investors who are actually invested in Stanford products from investors whose broker dealers used Stanford as a clearing house and are not affected by the potential claims levied by the government. "I trust government agencies will take quick steps to narrow the affected investor class and restore account access to all others."

ESPN Finds A-Rod's Cousin

Oct 31, 2014 6:32 AM

It took just a few days for ESPN to find Alex Rodriguez's cousin. Yuri Sucart was Rodriguez's best friend and reportedly aided him in his PED use, according to his wife. "I told you my husband has nothing to say," said Sucart's wife when ESPN knocked on their door. "What A-Rod said at the press conference is what happened and that is all. And if you want to talk to my husband, why don't you talk to his lawyer?"

Ventura: Selig Should Be Indicted

Jul 11, 2014 2:09 AM

Jesse Ventura, the former governor of Minnesota, says he wonders why the federal government has not indicted Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig after 104 players tested positive for steroids in 2003. "In the early '90s, the federal government came into pro wrestling and tried to put Vince McMahon in prison for steroid use of wrestlers. My question is: They've now determined 104 baseball players failed their steroid test in 2003 - 104. They indicted Vince McMahon, why aren't they indicting Bud Selig?" Ventura asked. "He's the head of baseball, it happened on his watch."

Alomar: Lawsuit Is Filled With Lies

Oct 17, 2014 10:33 AM

An ex-girlfriend of Roberto Alomar filed a lawsuit alleging the former baseball star insisted on unprotected sex for four years despite having AIDS. The lawsuit, filed Jan. 30 and transferred to U.S. District Court on Wednesday, contains accusations that could not be corroborated but portray Alomar as someone who demanded sex without a condom despite showing obvious signs of HIV. Ilya Dall is seeking at least $15 million in punitive damages, saying the ordeal caused her severe emotional and mental distress and fear she may one day test positive for HIV herself. Alomar said in a statement: "This is a very private, personal matter and I greatly appreciate all the support I have received in the past few days from my family, friends and colleagues in baseball. I am in very good health and I ask that you respect my privacy during this time. "As for the lawsuit, it is filled with lies and I am deeply saddened that someone I cared for would make such terrible accusations and try to hurt me in this way."
