Twins Break Major League Record For Road Home Runs

Aug 30, 2019 5:20 PM

The Minnesota Twins set a Major League record for home runs on the road in a season with their 141th in Chicago on Thursday.

The previous mark was held by the San Francisco Giants, who clubbed 139 home runs on the road in 2001.

"I just think hitting is contagious, and that goes with the homers as well," Jake Cave said. "We were missing some really good players out there."

Aristides Aquino Sets NL Rookie Home Run Mark

Aug 30, 2019 7:19 AM

Aristides Aquino broke the National League rookie mark for homers in a month on Thursday with his 14th in August.

Cody Bellinger had the previous mark with 13 home runs in June 2017. The Major League record for a rookie is 18 by the Detroit Tigers' Rudy York in August 1937.

"Speechless," David Bell said. "Guys are having fun watching him and what he's doing. Pretty special."

Aquino was promoted on Aug. 1. He tied the Reds record for homers by a player in a month held by Frank Robinson (1962) and Greg Vaughn (1999). He leads majors with 32 RBIs this month.

Orioles Allow 258th Home Run Of Season

Aug 22, 2019 7:34 AM

The Baltimore Orioles gave up their 258th home run of the season on Wednesday night, tying the 2016 Cincinnati Reds for the most allowed by a team in a single year.

The record was tied in the top of the third inning when Whit Merrifield of the Kansas City Royals hit a fastball from Aaron Brooks over the left-centerfield wall.

"We've given up a ton of homers," Brandon Hyde said. "What's the record ... 258? So, if it's 259 or 330, I don't care. I just want us to get better on the mound and obviously finish this year and go into next year trying to do a better job of keeping the ball in the ballpark and staying off the barrel, but home runs are up. ... We're all tired of seeing them and hopefully we can get better going forward."

Zack Greinke Becomes Third Active Pitcher With 200 Wins

Aug 19, 2019 9:10 AM

Zack Greinke won the 200th game of his career as the Houston Astros defeated the Oakland Athletics 4-1 on Sunday.

Greinke is the third active pitcher to reach the 200-win mark and the second member of the Astros in as many years (Justin Verlander).

"I wouldn't say there's many pitchers who would say [wins] are the No. 1 most important stat for them, but if you and the team are winning, it's the most important," Greinke said. "It doesn't necessarily say you're pitching the best, but it's the most important."
