Zack Wheeler Throws 100 MPH, Hits 100 MPH Home Run

Apr 24, 2019 7:48 AM

Zack Wheeler made history on Tuesday night as the New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies.

Wheeler reached 100.6 mph on the radar gun, becoming just the 12th pitcher to reach 100 this season.

He then hit his first career home run, launching the ball 101.4 mph to the opposite field.

Amazingly, Wheeler did it in his 100th career start.

Not many pitchers have thrown a 100-mph pitch and hit a 100-mph batted ball in the same season since Statcast began tracking in 2015. Wheeler is one of 14 in that club, several of whom have done it in more than one year.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have tied a Major League record by hitting a home run in their 32nd consecutive home game.

A.J. Pollock hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning of the Dodgers' 3-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds.

"It's a cool stat, for sure,'' Pollock said. "Honestly, there's a lot of power on this team. These guys are really trying to do damage. They're trying to get pitches to hit, and we like hitting at home."

Jacob deGrom's Quality Starts Streak Ends At 26

Apr 11, 2019 8:47 AM

Jacob deGrom allowed six runs in four innings against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night, ending his streak of quality starts at 26 games.

deGrom is the reigning National League Cy Young winner.

He hadn't delivered anything less than a quality start for the New York Mets since May 13, 2018, when he left a start early due to injury.

"He just didn't have it today," Mickey Callaway said. "He and Bob Gibson had it longer than anybody else ever in the history of the game, and tonight he just didn't have it."
