Royals' Game 1 Win Tied For Longest World Series Game Ever

Oct 28, 2015 7:41 AM

The Kansas City Royals won in the 14th inning on a sacrifice fly by Eric Hosmer to beat the New York Mets 5-4 in Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday night.

The game was the longest World Series opener in history and tied for the longest Fall Classic game ever.

"It was a great night," Ned Yost said. "Two things you don't want in Game 1 of the World Series: One is to go 14 innings and the other is to lose."

Murphy Sets Mark With Home Run In Sixth Straight Playoff Game

Oct 22, 2015 11:00 AM

Daniel Murphy was named the MVP of the NLCS as the New York Mets completed a sweep of the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night.

Murphy hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning of New York's 8-3 win, the sixth straight postseason game in which he has homered. The run is a Major League record.

"I can't explain why the balls keep going out of the ballpark, but they do," Murphy said.

"And we keep winning ballgames, which is the most important part and the coolest part."

Murphy also joined Lou Gehrig as the only players with seven straight postseason games with a hit, a run and an RBI.

Teams Set Record With 21 Home Runs On Monday

Oct 14, 2015 7:49 AM

There were 21 home runs hit on Monday, a record for one day of postseason play.

Howie Kendrick's three-run home run in Game 3 of the NLDS between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets was the final long ball.

The Chicago Cubs hit a playoff-record six home runs in their victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.

The 61 total runs scored Monday also set a postseason record.

The previous postseason record for home runs was 15, set Oct. 3, 1995, according to STATS. Like Monday, there were four postseason games on that day 20 years ago.

The previous record for runs was 48, set Oct. 5, 2002.
