Giants Won't Participate In 'Arms Race' With Dodgers

Oct 16, 2014 10:18 PM

The Giants are just one win away from their second World Series in three years and the Dodgers have new high-spending ownership, but San Francisco isn't buying into a special rivalry just yet.

"I don't see it as an arms race," president Larry Baer said. "It's a judgment race. It's a brainiac race. What team can come up with the right judgments to put the right combination of players on the field?"

Yankees Rule Out Moving Rodriguez To Shortstop

Oct 16, 2014 10:24 PM

Joe Girardi ruled out returning Alex Rodriguez to shortstop following a 6-4 loss in 12 innings to the Tigers on Saturday night.

Rodriguez played shortstop until he was traded from the Rangers to the Yankees in 2004.

“No, I wouldn’t do that,” Girardi said of playing Rodriguez at shortstop. “It’s just been too long.”

Rodriguez returned to the starting lineup after being benched for Friday’s decisive Game 5 against the Orioles.

Eduardo Nunez was added to the Yankees roster to replace the injured Derek Jeter.

Ian Kinsler's Spot In Lineup May Have Ripple Effect With Rangers

Nov 23, 2014 4:32 PM

How the Rangers decide to use Ian Kinsler next season will have a significant effect on how they approach other areas of the roster.

Kinsler is signed to a long-term deal and provides versatility, but he wasn't much of a leadoff hitter this season. He hit just .220 in September, his worst month of the season. He wasn't on base often either, putting up his lowest on-base percentage of the season as well.

Jurickson Profar might be another option at leadoff and his emergence could also lead Texas to consider trading Elvis Andrus.

If the Rangers see Profar as their leadoff hitter, he could take over short and lead to Andrus being moved.

Dodgers Leaning Towards Playing Hanley Ramirez At Shortstop

Oct 23, 2014 8:41 PM

The Dodgers are leaning towards playing Hanley Ramirez at shortstop in 2013.

Los Angeles has the speedy Dee Gordon at short, and Ramirez had previously moved to third while with the Marlins to make room for Jose Reyes.

"At this point in time, we're leaning toward shortstop," Dodgers' GM Ned Colletti said.
