Matt Barnes Gets Four-Game Ban For Throwing At Manny Machado

Apr 25, 2017 8:44 AM

Matt Barnes has been suspended four games and fined an undisclosed amount for throwing a fastball past the head of Manny Machado on Sunday.

Barnes is appealing, meaning he can pitch for the Boston Red Sox until the appeal is heard.

"I would never intentionally throw at someone's head. That's kind of a line you don't cross," Barnes said.

On Friday night, Machado made a late slide that injured Dustin Pedroia, who is day-to-day after visiting doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital.

John Farrell defended Barnes, saying Sunday that the pitch "got away from him."

Miguel Sano Suspended One Game, Files Appeal

Apr 25, 2017 8:30 AM

Miguel Sano has been suspended for one game and fined by Major League Baseball for what the league termed "aggressive actions" that caused benches to clear between the Minnesota Twins and Detroit Tigers last weekend.

Detroit's JaCoby Jones was hit in the face by a pitch from Justin Haley in the third inning on Saturday. Two innings later, Matthew Boyd threw behind Sano, who yelled out at the mound. James McCann intervened and appeared to put his mitt in the face of Sano, who reacted immediately with a right hand to McCann's mask.

The players' association appealed, allowing Sano to continue playing until the appeal is heard and decided.
