Trevor Rosenthal To Undergo Tommy John Surgery

Aug 25, 2017 7:47 AM

Trevor Rosenthal will have Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, the St. Louis Cardinals have announced.

"I think just the timing of it, being right in the middle of this race and the way my personal season had been taking shape and the way the team has been playing recently. Tough timing," Rosenthal said.

"It felt like we were getting in a groove, I was in a groove, and to kind of have this happen and take a piece away from a really good team is a little bit of a bummer."

Rosenthal, who recorded 93 saves over the 2014 and 2015 seasons, lost the closer's job to Seung-Hwan Oh a year ago but regained it this season after Oh struggled.

Rosenthal will have surgery next week.

"We hoped for better news," Mike Matheny said. "Somebody is going to have to step in. He was really throwing the ball well."

Albert Pujols Becomes Foreign-Born Home Run Leader

Aug 24, 2017 7:53 AM

Albert Pujols hit a three-run home run on Tuesday night to become Major League Baseball's all-time home run leader among foreign-born players.

Pujols has clubbed 610 homers in his career, passing fellow Dominican Sammy Sosa for the distinction and taking sole possession of eighth place on the all-time list.

"It's pretty special," Pujols said. "Obviously other great players from the Dominican Republic, Latin America, Venezuela, Mexico, Colombia, they've gone through the big leagues, and to be able to accomplish something like this is very humbling. I want to thank God for giving me the ability and the talent and the opportunity to be able to do it and win. For me, I go out there and do whatever it takes to help this ballclub win every day. I don't think about home runs or any numbers."

Cardinals Say 'Rally Cat' Is Missing

Aug 11, 2017 9:10 AM

The St. Louis Cardinals say "Rally Cat" went missing late Wednesday night.

The cat entered lore Wednesday night, interrupting play against the Kansas City Royals with the bases loaded in the sixth inning by running onto the field and toward the center-field wall. One pitch after the kitten was retrieved, Yadier Molina hit what turned out to be a game-winning grand slam.

After a series of events, the cat went missing.

According to ballpark ushers, "a fan grabbed it and claimed it was hers."

The Cardinals said they caught up to the fan as she left the ballpark to ask her questions, but "she abruptly left with the cat."
