Dodgers Trade Prospect To M's For Kristopher Negron

Jul 30, 2019 4:02 PM

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired infielder/outfielder Kristopher Negron from the Seattle Mariners for minor leaguer Daniel Castro, it was announced Sunday.

Negron was recalled by the Mariners from Triple-A earlier this month and has batted .217 in 10 games. Before joining Seattle, he was batting .310 with 12 homers and 61 RBIs at Tacoma.

Castro, an infielder, was signed by the Dodgers as a free agent last November. He was batting .241 with 11 RBIs in 45 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City this season.

The Dodgers need depth in the infield, as second baseman Kike Hernandez (left wrist) will likely be placed on the injured list Monday, according to manager Dave Roberts.

Rivera, Halladay, Smith, Mussina, Martinez, Baines Join HOF

Jul 22, 2019 2:48 PM

For Mariano Rivera, it was the culmination of a storied career, dreams of being the next Pele long since forgotten. For Brandy Halladay, the Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony was a tearful moment to reflect on the accomplishments of her late husband, and she handled a difficult task admirably.

Rivera and fellow closer Lee Smith, starters Mike Mussina and Roy Halladay, and designated hitters Edgar Martinez and Harold Baines were feted on a sun-splashed afternoon in Cooperstown. A crowd estimated at 55,000, the second-largest for an induction ceremony, quickly made Rivera feel at peace.

Angels Honor Tyler Skaggs With No-Hitter

Jul 13, 2019 4:54 PM

The Angels honored their late teammate, Tyler Skaggs, in the best way possible Friday night. They all wore his No. 45 jersey onto the field, played a video montage on the giant video board, brought his mother out to the pitcher's mound, then put together one of the most impressive, inspired performances of the 2019 season.

Two pitchers, Taylor Cole and Felix Pena, teamed up to no-hit the Mariners in a 13-0 victory at Angel Stadium in the Angels' first home game since Skaggs died in his hotel room in Texas on July 1. Cole worked two perfect innings to open the game and Pena dominated through the final seven, allowing just one fifth-inning walk.
