The Pittsburgh Pirates recently made an inquiry on Lance Berkman, but his agent said he is leaning towards retirement.

Berkman hit .242/.340/.359 in just 294 plate appearances with the Texas Rangers in 2013.

Miguel Cabrera was named the American League MVP for the second straight year on Thursday night, while Andrew McCutchen cruised to National League MVP honors.

Cabrera earned 23 of 30 first-place votes to once again beat out Mike Trout for the award.

McCutchen received 28 of 30 first-place votes to easily top Paul Goldschmidt.

In recent RealGM polls both Cabrera and McCutchen were tabbed as winners of the MVP award in wide margins.

Francona, Hurdle Honored As Top Managers

Terry Francona and Clint Hurdle were honored as the top managers in the American and National League, respectively.

Francona edged long-time friend John Farrell of the World Series champion Boston Red Sox 112 points to 96.

"I have a feeling he wouldn't trade what they did for this any day of the week," Francona said.

Hurdle was a runaway winner, selected first on 25 of 30 ballots after taking the Pittsburgh Pirates to the playoffs in their first winning season since 1992.

Mazeroski's Auction Items Take In $1.7M

The uniform that Bill Mazeroski wore when he hit a walk-off home run for the Pirates during the final game of the 1960 World Series has a new owner after an auction of the his memorabilia.

Hunt Auctions said Saturday the collection took in $1.7M, with the uniform commanding a sales price of $633,000.

Burnett went 10-11 with a 3.30 ERA and 209 strikeouts in 191 innings for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2013.

Finalists For BWAA Awards Announced

The finalists for the Baseball Writers Association of America awards for the 2013 season have been announced.

Miguel Cabrera, Chris Davis and Mike Trout are up for American League MVP, while the National League MVP will be either Paul Goldschmidt, Andrew McCutchen or Yadier Molina.

The finalists for the AL CY Young award are Max Scherzer, Yu Darvish and Hisashi Iwakuma. The NL Cy Young has been narrowed down to Jose Fernandez, Clayton Kershaw or Adam Wainwright.
