'Door's Open' For Julio Urias To Be In Dodgers Rotation

Feb 28, 2019 8:50 AM

There is a chance Julio Urias will begin the season in the Los Angeles Dodgers' starting rotation.

“It’s unfair to put limits on him as far as the potential to open the season," Dave Roberts said. "Right now, he’s doing everything he possibly can. The door’s open for him. The opportunity will present itself if it’s supposed to. We’ve said from the start of spring, we’re seven or eight starting pitchers deep. Fortunately, we don’t have to make that decision right now.”

Urias threw a 1-2-3 inning against the Oakland Athletics in Wednesday's exhibition game.

He threw just 22 innings, including the playoffs, last season.

Bryce Harper Favorite To Win NL MVP

Feb 28, 2019 8:42 AM

Bryce Harper is the favorite to win the National League MVP despite remaining on the free agent market.

The Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook opened MVP odds Wednesday, with Harper the betting favorite at 6-1 odds. Nolan Arenado (7-1), Paul Goldschmidt (10-1) and Kris Bryant (12-1) have the next-best odds.

"We think Harper's favorite destination is Philadelphia," Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook director John Murray said. "That's a Little League park. You can imagine how many home runs he'd hit there as his home park. If he ends up going to the Dodgers, you could see the odds tweaked a bit since that's such a pitchers' park.

"He's an elite player and is going to be one of the favorites for MVP for a while."

Dodgers Aren't Yet Worried About Clayton Kershaw

Feb 27, 2019 7:42 AM

The Los Angeles Dodgers aren't worried about Clayton Kershaw's status for Opening Day.

"We have so much depth in our pitching," Dave Roberts said. "I haven't put any thought into Opening Day outside of Clayton."

Kershaw is taking a few days off from throwing because of a sore left shoulder.

"Right now, the main thought for us is see how he feels Thursday and then we can set out a schedule at that point," Roberts said. "Right now, we feel good about what we're doing as a staff, as an organization, and we'll go from there."

Bryce Harper To Choose Between Phillies, Dodgers, Giants This Week

Feb 25, 2019 7:32 PM

Bryce Harper is expected to reach his free agency decision by the end of the current week.

The bidding is down to the Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants.

The Dodgers re-entered the bidding for Harper with interest in a short-term contract. The Giants also have interest in signing Harper on a short-term deal, but ownership may overrule their front office as they look to make another signing similar to when they signed Barry Bonds in the early 1990s.

The Washington Nationals previously offered Harper a 10-year, $300 million contract in September, but are out of the running. The Chicago White Sox are also out on signing Harper.

Clayton Kershaw Dealing With Shoulder Inflammation

Feb 25, 2019 7:18 AM

Clayton Kershaw has taken a step back from throwing because of inflammation in his throwing shoulder, but he doesn't need an MRI and is taking anti-inflammatory medication.

Kershaw is expected to play catch on Monday, but the Los Angeles Dodgers haven't specified how much he will throw or at what distance he will throw from.

"It's just the shoulder, probably inflammation getting ramped up," Dave Roberts said. "Says he continues to feel better. When he will throw a baseball, probably soon."

Kershaw will start on Opening Day for the Dodgers.

Andrew Friedman: Dodgers Have 'No Weak Spot'

Feb 14, 2019 8:52 AM

The Los Angeles Dodgers are set up for success in 2019.

Andrew Friedman hasn't made a huge addition this offseason, but he's still confident they'll win a division title for a seventh straight year.

"I feel like we have a chance to be an elite team, and I think we have a very well-rounded roster," Friedman said. "It's also got a number of core players that have won a significant number of games together. I think oftentimes that gets overlooked."

Friedman remains open-minded about possible additions, but proclaimed that he sees "no weak spot" on the Dodgers' roster.
