Dodgers Break Club Record With 222 Home Runs

Sep 24, 2018 7:56 AM

Manny Machado hit one of three home runs for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday to give the team a National League-leading 222 on the season and break the club record of 221.

"We have great hitters here," Machado said. "We're all confident. We know the team we have."

The Dodgers hit 221 home runs last season.

With the home run, Machado also notched the first 100-RBI season of his career.

Dave Roberts: Dodgers Playing 'Our Best Baseball'

Sep 19, 2018 7:54 AM

It seems as though everything is finally coming together for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

With a win over the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night, the Dodgers are now 1.5 games ahead of the Rockies in the National League West. They have won six of their last seven games.

Dave Roberts believes his team is playing "our best baseball" as the regular season reaches its penultimate week.

"It's not really going out on a limb," he said. "We've been sort of inconsistent all year long, but things are coming together at the right time."

Dodgers Replace Alex Wood In Rotation With Ross Stripling

Sep 14, 2018 7:54 AM

Looking to make a push for the National League West title, the Los Angeles Dodgers are replacing Alex Wood in the rotation with Ross Stripling.

"We're pushing (Hyun-Jin) Ryu to Monday. And we're going to put Alex Wood in the pen for the foreseeable future, unless something changes," Dave Roberts said.

"Two reasons: No. 1 is that he's done it before and he's really flourished in that role, and we expect him to throw leverage innings and dominate. That's probably the main reason. And we're going to go with five starters."

Wood is tied for the club lead in wins (18), leads the club in innings (148) and has a 3.65 ERA.

He has struggled recently. His average fastball velocity is down nearly 2 mph over last season.

Corey Seager Confident He'll Be Dodgers' Shortstop In 2019

Sep 10, 2018 7:57 AM

Corey Seager says he'll be ready to play shortstop for the Los Angeles Dodgers next season.

Seager is recovering from two major operations -- Tommy John elbow reconstruction and arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn left hip labrum and shave a misshaped bone.

He doesn't believe the fact that he's had two significant injuries by age 24 is the result of playing a demanding defensive position usually manned by players smaller than him (6-4, 220-pounds).

"Nope, not at all. It really hasn't been a thought," Seager said. "I'm planning to stay at short. All [the injuries] would have happened in other positions. I don't think it made a huge difference."

Seager said his throwing program will begin early next month, providing six months before the 2019 season starts. He put off the hip surgery, which required a month on crutches, until his arm was strong enough to handle the crutches.

Kenley Jansen Thought His Season Was Over

Sep 10, 2018 7:46 AM

Kenley Jansen knew what was happening when his heart started racing, his chest became tight and breathing became difficult while he was on the mound in Colorado earlier this season.

The same thing happened in 2011 and 2012. His heart was in atrial fibrillation.

"I wasn't scared. I knew exactly what it was," Jansen says now. "I was pissed.

"I thought my season was over. I'm like, man, f--- this. Not again. We're trying to go back to the World Series. I have a chance to win another Trevor Hoffman award. Man!"

Jansen is back with the Los Angeles Dodgers after being away from the team due to the irregular heartbeat on Aug. 9. He didn't travel with the team to Denver to face the Rockies this past weekend.

"I tried everything to get it back into rhythm for 15, 20 minutes. And then I'm finally like, all right, let's just call 911," Jansen said.

"I remember being annoyed in the ambulance too. It was driving so slow. I just wanted to get to the ER so they could fix it."

Kenley Jansen Could Miss Trip To Colorado

Sep 4, 2018 8:02 AM

Kenley Jansen could sit out the Los Angeles Dodgers' trip to Colorado this weekend due to ongoing problems with an irregular heartbeat.

Increased elevation can exacerbate an irregular heartbeat. Jansen previously had issues with his heart in 2012 and this year while playing the Rockies.

"With Kenley and altitude and going to Denver, it's certainly going to be a conversation we're going to revisit during this series," Dave Roberts said. "The No. 1 priority that we're all aligned on is that Kenley's health is first and foremost the priority. If there's any hesitation on his part or the doctors say the altitude can affect him in any way, then for us it's a no-brainer to have him stay back. So we haven't made a decision yet. We'll have those conversations and make that decision in the next couple of days."

Jansen spent 11 days on the disabled list this summer with a recurrence of his irregular heartbeat, which began to present itself while he was in Denver last month.

Dodgers Get David Freese To Fortify Bench

Sep 1, 2018 7:36 AM

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired David Freese from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday for minor league infielder Jesus Manuel Valdez.

Freese, who is hitting .283/.337/.447 this season, will serve as a right-handed hitting platoon option at first base. He may also occasionally play third.

"He's a veteran presence, offensive, great clubhouse guy," Dave Roberts said. "Our guys [in the front office] have done a great job supporting us, and I'm really excited to have him."
