Dodgers Send Julio Urias Back To Triple-A

May 29, 2016 12:33 AM

One day after becoming the first teenage starting pitcher in over a decade, the Dodgers sent Julio Urias back to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

The Dodgers' top prospect, and widely regarded as the top prospect in all of baseball, lasted just 2 2/3 innings against the Mets on Friday. In making his debut, he became the first pitcher to start a major league game before his 20th birthday since Felix Hernandez in 2005.

To take his spot on the 25-man roster, the Dodgers selected the contract of right-handed reliever Casey Fien from Oklahoma City on Saturday.

May 29, 2016 12:25 AM

Payback for an aggressive slide during last October's NLDS, if that's what it was, cost the Mets their ace.

Noah Syndergaard was ejected by plate umpire Adam Hamari from Saturday night's game against the Dodgers in the third inning for throwing a 99 mph fastball behind NLDS villain Chase Utley.

Julio Urias Departs Early In Debut

May 28, 2016 2:21 AM

The first teenage starter in 11 years failed to get through three innings Friday, when Dodgers rookie Julio Urias departed after 2 2/3 innings against the Mets.

But the short outing mattered little to Urias.

"I'm not going to lie. When I went out there, I started thinking of everything I had to go through to get here," he said, speaking through a translator after the Dodgers' 6-5 loss.

"I will never forget everything that happened in this game because this is the happiest day of my life."

Yasiel Puig Benched For Not Running Out Fly Ball

May 25, 2016 7:41 AM

Yasiel Puig was benched on Tuesday night for not running out a deep fly to right that caromed off the wall in a game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds.

"He needed to be on second base," Dave Roberts said after the game. "We talk about playing the game the right way."

Puig was apologetic when asked about the play and agreed with Roberts' decision to lift him from the game.

"I thought it was a home run, and then I didn't run out the ball, obviously," Puig said through an interpreter. "It was [Roberts'] decision to take me out of the game. It was a decision well made, because all my teammates are out on the field working hard, and I should have run out that ball."

Yasiel Puig: 'We Have To Make Baseball Fun'

May 9, 2016 4:24 PM

Yasiel Puig is among those that believe Major League Baseball needs to become more fun, much like reigning National League MVP Bryce Harper.

"Bryce Harper is my idol now. I'm going to join him in the "make baseball fun again" campaign; I'm just waiting to get my shirts and baseball caps," Puig told ESPN The Magazine.

"He's always been a great friend and a great athlete, and I admire him. I like how he plays the game, and I think he gets it. It's good to see an American player saying that there needs to be a little more fun in baseball. Fans leave everything behind to come and see us play. We have to make baseball fun for the fans and not take everything so personal."

Puig, 25, is hitting .243/.294/.396 with three home runs and three stolen bases in 119 plate appearances this season.

For the second consecutive year, the Los Angeles Dodgers have suspended minor league shortstop Erisbel Arruebarrena for the remainder of the season.

"We have suspended Erisbel for the remainder of the season for his repeated failure to comply with the terms of his contract," director of player development Gabe Kapler said.
