Dodgers: Kemp Isn't On Trade Block

Jul 31, 2014 7:34 AM

The Los Angeles Dodgers aren't looking to trade Matt Kemp prior to Thursday afternoon's deadline.

Kemp has been the subject of trade rumors since baseball's winter meetings. Speculation heated up when the outfielder's agent said that a change of scenery might be in his client's best interest.

He is hitting .397 over his last 18 games.

"Nobody's heard me say we're trading Matt Kemp," Ned Colletti said. "Nobody's heard me say we're shopping Matt Kemp. Nobody's heard me say that. That's all in another world."

Rival GM: 'Hamels Is Staying Put'

Jul 30, 2014 1:56 PM

The Philadelphia Phillies aren't serious about trading Cole Hamels, according to teams that have inquired about the left-hander.

The Phillies have requested packages of multiple top prospects from the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.

As one rival general manager said, "Hamels is staying put."

The Phillies haven't said that specifically, but that is the indication teams are getting.

Hamels has a 2.72 ERA and trading him would save Philadelphia a significant amount of money over the next few seasons.

Cardinals, Dodgers Most Aggressively Pursuing Lester, Price

Jul 30, 2014 1:50 PM

The St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers are the two clubs most aggressively pursuing Jon Lester and David Price, according to sources.

The Cardinals and Dodgers are determined to land a top-level starter prior to Thursday's non-waiver trade deadline and have remained in contact with the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays on the two left-handers.

As of early Wednesday afternoon, Lester seems more likely to be traded than Price.

The Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates could still be involved in Lester.

Vin Scully Will Return For 66th Season

Jul 30, 2014 9:20 AM

The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced that Vin Scully will return to the broadcast booth next season, his 66th on the job.

The team broke the news on the videoboard and in its television broadcast during the second inning of its game against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night.

The Dodgers then showed Scully, 86, acknowledging the crowd from the broadcast booth and holding his hand over his heart.

"It is very difficult to say goodbye," Scully said in a statement. "God willing, I will be back next year. Over the years, I have been blessed to have so many friends, including those that sit in the stands and listen as well as those at home, who listen and watch. It is just too hard to say goodbye to all these friends. Naturally, there will come a time when I will have to say goodbye, but I've soul-searched, and this is not the time."

Phillies Want Three Top Prospects For Hamels

Jul 29, 2014 8:44 PM

The Los Angeles Dodgers recently called the Philadelphia Phillies about Cole Hamels, but were turned off by the asking price.

Philadelphia told Los Angeles that they wanted three of the team's top prospects -- outfielder Joc Pederson, shortstop Corey Seager and left-handed pitcher Julio Urias.

No team has been willing to meet the asking price for Hamels, but the Phillies may be willing to lower it if they can package the left-hander with someone like Ryan Howard or Jonathan Papelbon.

Clearing that much money off the books would allow Philadelphia to be players in free agency this winter.
