Report: Dodgers Owe More Tax Than Yankees

The Los Angeles Dodgers are Major League Baseball's biggest spenders, surpassing the New York Yankees, as they owe more than $26.6 million in luxury tax.

The Dodgers finished with a record payroll of $257,283,410 this past season. That is more than $20 million above the previous high, set by the Yankees last year.

The Yankees won't have the biggest luxury tax bill for the first time since the current luxury tax began in 2003.

Report: Padres, Phillies Discussing Trade For Hamels

The Padres and Phillies have discussed a potential trade for left-hander Cole Hamels, reported Sunday evening. Outfielder Wil Myers would be the headliner heading back to Philadelphia, according to the report.

The Boston Globe reported last week the Padres, Cubs, Red Sox, Dodgers and Rangers were interested the 30-year-old Hamels.

Dodgers, Padres Finalize Kemp Trade

Matt Kemp has joined the San Diego Padres after the club finalized a five-player trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday night.

The teams agreed to the trade last week during the winter meetings in San Diego, but Kemp's physical delayed the transaction slightly.

San Diego also gets catcher Tim Federowicz. The Dodgers receive catcher Yasmani Grandal and right-handers Joe Wieland and Zach Eflin. The Padres will also receive $32 million to offset the $107 million remaining on Kemp's contract.
