Dodgers Have Completely Remade Top Of Order

Aug 31, 2012 8:39 AM

The Dodgers have made headlines for all the players they have acquired over the last month.

On Thursday night, the first four batters in their order were playing for different teams a month ago -- Nick Punto, Shane Victorino, Adrian Gonzalez and Hanley Ramirez.

Los Angeles entered action on Friday 4.5 games back of San Francisco in the NL West. On July 15, they were just 1.5 games back of first place.

Victorino Wants To Re-Sign With Dodgers, But Not As Bench Player

Aug 31, 2012 8:28 AM

Shane Victorino is interested in re-signing with the Dodgers this winter, but will be looking for a starting role with the team that traded for him last month.

The 31-year-old might find L.A.'s outfield to be crowded.

The Dodgers have Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier in the outfield. They also acquired Carl Crawford, who is under contract through 2017, in a trade last weekend.

"Are you crazy?" Victorino told Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times. "I'm not even thinking about stepping back. Why would I? I'm 31 years old. ... I'm going to be an everyday play, whether it be here, whether it be Philly, whether it be any uniform."

Billingsley Receives Elbow Injection

Aug 31, 2012 1:36 AM

Dodgers pitcher Chad Billingsley received an injection of platelet-rich plasma in his right elbow Thursday, a therapy that could be his last hope of pitching again in 2012.

He went on the DL Saturday with inflammation in his elbow, his second stint on the DL for the injury this season.

"This is the next step to see if he's going to be able to pitch again this year," manager Don Mattingly said. "Then we'll go from there."

Dodgers Worried Over Billingsley Not Returning

Aug 30, 2012 11:33 AM

Dodgers CEO Stan Kasten is worried that injured starting pitcher Chad Billingsley will not return this season, according to the LA Times.

Kasten's concern is "not based on medical evidence." He also said that the teams' ongoing search for another starting pitcher is not related to Billingsley's elbow injury.

"There has never been a team in the history of baseball that has not been looking for pitching," Kasten told the Times.

Billingsley was placed on the DL Saturday after an MRI revealed inflammation in his elbow.

Kenley Jansen Facing Heart Issues

Aug 30, 2012 12:45 AM

The Dodgers may have to finish the season without closer Kenley Jansen, according to a report.

Jansen was unavailable to close out the Dodgers' win over the Rockies on Wednesday because of issues related to a heart problem that sidelined him for nearly a month last year, manager Don Mattingly said.

The Dodgers are deciding what to do with Jansen, who refused to speak to reporters or allow the medical staff to explain his condition.

Rockies Have Dodgers' Number This Season

Aug 29, 2012 3:53 PM

The Rockies have endured a disappointing season, going 53-75, but they have excelled against the Dodgers.

Los Angeles is sixteen games ahead of Colorado in the standings, but the Rockies have won eight of their fourteen games against the Dodgers in 2012.

"This is where you want to make up your ground," Don Mattingly said. "It doesn't make sense. The Rockies have more wins against us, but we've played the Cardinals and Braves real well."

Oswalt Could Be Dealt Before Playoff Deadline

Aug 28, 2012 5:35 PM

It is "possible" that the Rangers could trade Roy Oswalt before Friday's deadline.

The Dodgers, Nationals and White Sox have been linked to Oswalt as they seek pitching for the stretch run.

Chicago may be an unlikely destination as a source indicated that Texas doesn't want to trade Oswalt to an American League club.

"I don't have any say-so," said Oswalt, who confirmed that he has cleared waivers. "If they trade me, I would have to go. I'm just going to do what they tell me to do."

Dodgers Called Yankees About Sabathia, Teixeira

Aug 28, 2012 12:10 PM

The Dodgers called the Yankees about trades for CC Sabathia and Mark Teixeira.

The Dodgers, looking to be proactive ahead of free agency, called high-payroll teams in July to let them know they were willing to take on huge contracts.

Los Angeles has taken on the contracts of Hanley Ramirez, Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett this summer.

The Yankees told the Dodgers that they had no interest in moving either Sabathia, who has four years and $99 million left on his deal after the season, or Teixeira, who has $90 million left on his contract through 2016.

It isn't believed that Alex Rodriguez's name came up in talks.

Beckett Gives Up HR On Second Pitch With Dodgers

Aug 28, 2012 8:11 AM

Josh Beckett pitched well in his first appearance with the Dodgers, but things didn't start off swimmingly against the Rockies.

Beckett allowed a home run to Tyler Colvin on his second pitch, a fastball that was crushed into the second deck. The Red Sox traded Beckett to the Dodgers over the weekend.

Beckett allowed three runs over 5 2/3 innings as Colorado defeated Los Angeles 10-0.

"I've only been here a couple of days," Beckett said. "I'm still feeling things out. As I move forward, I'll get more comfortable."
