Manny Goes 1-For-3 In Final Rehab Game
Manny Ramirez played in his final rehab game on Monday night, going 1-for-3 with with two strikeouts.
Ramirez is eligible to return to the Dodgers on Friday night against the Padres after serving a 50-game suspension for violating baseball's drug policy.
The Dodgers originally planned to have Manny play in another rehab game on Tuesday, but because of the game's early start they didn't feel like it was needed.
"I don't think one more game is going to make that much difference," said general manager Ned Colletti.
Torre Isn't A Fan Of Interleague Play
Dodgers manager Joe Torre isn't a fan of interleague play, but he understands why it's a fan favorite.
"I'm not a big fan," Torre said. "It's a novelty for the fans; I think we're doing it for the fans. Which is fine.
"In certain cities, it works. I mean, we play the Angels, and, of course, Chicago with the White Sox and the Cubbies."
Manny Drops To Seventh In All-Star Balloting
Dodgers left fielder Manny Ramirez has dropped to seventh place in the All-Star voting among NL outfielders.
There are just four days remaining in the balloting for starters.
Ramirez had 1,343,011 votes and trailed Philadelphia's Raul Ibanez (2,970,139), Milwaukee's Ryan Braun (2,654.061), the Mets' Carlos Beltran (2,085,028), the Cubs' Alfonso Soriano (1,916,598), Philadelphia's Shane Victorino (1,642,248) and Milwaukee's Mike Cameron (1,345,763).
The top three outfielders are elected to start the annual game.
Dodgers Sign Infielder Ramon Nivar
The Dodgers signed infielder Ramon Nivar to a minor-league contract.
Nivar has played for the Orioles and Rangers, but hasn't played in the minor leagues since 2005.
He was playing for the independent league Newark Bears this season.
Manny Homers In Rehab Game
Manny Ramirez went 2-for-2 with a home run on Saturday night in yet another rehab game.
The Dodgers' left fielder is expected to rejoin the major league club on July 3.
He homered to left field in his first at-bat on Saturday.
"No, gracias," Ramirez said when asked if he would speak with the media.
MLB Cooperating With Federal Probe Into Manny's Drug
MLB is cooperating with a federal probe into where Manny Ramirez got the performance-enhancing drug that resulted in his suspension, according to an Associated Press report.
The Drug Enforcement Administration is checking whether a doctor in Miami and his son were the source of the drug, ESPN reported Thursday.
MLB president Bob DuPuy confirmed that baseball?s department of investigations was working with the DEA. MLB had no additional comment on the probe.
Hitless Manny Gets Cheered At Rehab Game
Manny Ramirez went 0-for-2, but received cheers in his first rehab start for the Albuquerque Isotopes on Tuesday night.
Ramirez played four innings in front of 15,321 fans, the largest crowd in Albuquerque's baseball history.
"People love me everywhere I go," Ramirez said before the game. "I'm excited to bring a lot of joy to a lot of people here. I feel good. I'm happy that I'm here."
There were a few boos, but they were easily drowned out by the cheers.
"I'm not talking about it anymore," Ramirez said of his 50-game suspension. "I already said what I'm going to say. I'm here to do my rehab, you know, and [go] to the game and get a couple at-bats and get back to the big-league team."
Manny Causes Stir On Eve Of Rehab Stint
Manny Ramirez will begin a rehab stint with the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes on Tuesday night.
The left fielder is eligible to return to the Dodgers on July 3.
"It's just a matter of competition," Dodgers manager Joe Torre said. "It's the idea of going out there and playing a game."
The minor league team's 15,000-seat stadium is sold out for Tuesday's game, but some tickets remain for games later this week.
"If you want to see Manny, you can see Manny," Isotopes general manager John Traub said. "But we're telling people not to wait until the last minute. If they do, they're going to be standing in line and they'll miss his first two at-bats."
Dodgers Could Land Washburn
The Dodgers are looking to bolster their starting rotation and Jarrod Washburn's name has been mentioned in rumors.
Los Angeles general manager Ned Colletti isn't with the team this week as he scouts a number of players around the country.
Manny Will Play In Minors On Tuesday
Manny Ramirez is tentatively scheduled to play in the field on Tuesday for the Dodgers' Triple-A club in Albuquerque.
Ramirez, who is eligible to return to the major leagues on July 3, is allowed to play as many as ten minor league games under the rules of his 50-game suspension.
The left fielder can re-join the Dodgers on July 1, two days prior to the end of his suspension.
