O's Chris Davis Snaps MLB 0-For-54 Record

Apr 14, 2019 4:30 PM

Baltimore's Chris Davis ended an MLB-record 0-for-54 skid with his first hit of the season Saturday, dropping in a two-run single in the first inning off Boston Red Sox starter Rick Porcello.

Davis clapped his hands and called for the ball after reaching base to end the longest hitless streak by a non-pitcher in major league history. It began last season on Sept 15, 2018.

Still Hitless, Chris Davis Is 'Trusting The Process'

Apr 12, 2019 7:42 AM

Chris Davis is hitless in his first 53 at-bats this season, but the Baltimore Orioles' first baseman is trying to remain patient.

Davis is in the fourth season of a seven-year, $161 million contract. He hasn't recorded a hit since Sept. 14, 2018.

"I feel like I'm seeing the ball a lot better," he said. "I mean, I lined out again and drew a walk a little bit later. Just continue to work.

"For me I can't focus on the result as much as I want to. As much as I want to see some type of return for all the work I'm putting in. I gotta stay focused on the process."

His hitless streak is a Major League record.

Orioles Fans Out Of Patience With Chris Davis

Apr 7, 2019 11:59 PM

The new regime of the Orioles inherited a costly problem in slumping slugger Chris Davis, who's working with a $161 million contract yet can't buy a hit.

After batting .168 last year, Davis opened this season going 0 for 17 with 11 strikeouts. Combined with an 0-for-21 finish in 2018, he's looking for his first hit since Sept. 14.

Orioles fans have run out of patience waiting for Davis to get into a groove. Many in the sellout crowd at Thursday's home opener booed him during each at-bat, then cheered when he was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning.
