May 31, 2019 8:16 AM

With the Major League Baseball Draft looming, as many as six teams could be in the mix to sign Dallas Keuchel.

Once the draft passes, teams will no longer have to surrender a draft pick as compensation for signing the pitcher.

Jon Heyman noted that the New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, Minnesota Twins, Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers have been linked to Keuchel.

May 30, 2019 10:11 AM

The Atlanta Braves will host the 2021 All-Star Game at Suntrust Park, Major League Baseball has announced.

"When we built SunTrust Park and The Battery Atlanta we envisioned our complex would be the perfect setting for an All-Star Game and we are thrilled to be able to showcase the ballpark, Cobb County and the City of Atlanta to the world," Braves chairman Terry McGuirk said in a statement.

It will be the third All-Star Game in Atlanta. The exhibition game was played in the city in 1972 and 2000.

Braves Doing Due Diligence On Craig Kimbrel, Dallas Keuchel

May 28, 2019 8:27 AM

The Atlanta Braves are doing their due diligence on both Craig Kimbrel and Dallas Keuchel with the MLB Draft approaching on June 3.

At that point, teams will no longer need to surrender a draft pick to sign him, per the rules for players who reject a qualifying offer.

"I would think both guys can certainly help our club," Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos said of Kimbrel and Keuchel. "I think it's fair to say, any free agents that are out there, certainly with the draft pick being gone for some of these guys soon, I would think would only help their market. And like anybody else I'm sure that we will do our work on it."

Pitcher Skips MLB Draft, Signs $7M Deal In Japan

May 24, 2019 8:23 AM

Carter Stewart has agreed to a six-year, $7 million contract with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks of the Japanese Pacific League, according to sources.

The Atlanta Braves drafted Stewart with the No. 8 pick in 2018 out of high school. He did not sign after the Braves reduced their signing-bonus offer due to an alleged injury. He was expected to be taken in the early second round in next month's draft.

Stewart is guaranteed significantly more money by signing in Japan. He could theoretically join the Major Leagues as a 25-year-old free agent.

He is represented by Scott Boras.

Austin Riley Homers In Second Major League At-Bat

May 16, 2019 8:55 AM

The Atlanta Braves called up Austin Riley on Wednesday and he didn't disappoint.

The club's top prospect homered in his second Major League at-bat to lead off the fourth inning.

At the time of his promotion, Riley was leading the International League with 15 homers and 39 RBI.

"I'm speechless," Riley said. "That second at-bat, I figured he was going to challenge me a little bit. I was able to put a good swing on it."

Riley hit another drive to the edge of the warning track his next time up to the plate.

The Atlanta Braves plan to promote Austin Riley from Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday, according to sources.

Riley will take the roster spot of Ender Inciarte, who is expected to land on the injured list with a back injury.

The 22-year-old had never played in the outfield until the Braves introduced him to left field last week. He's a natural third baseman.

Braves Giving Prospect Austin Riley Time In Outfield

May 13, 2019 8:15 AM

The Atlanta Braves have been experimenting with top prospect Austin Riley in the outfield.

Riley may be baseball's best third base prospect. He's been playing as a left fielder at Triple-A Gwinnett.

He's been receiving two starts per week in the outfield.

The presence of Josh Donaldson may leave Riley without a clear path to Major League playing time this season, but the ability to play in the outfield could get him some at-bats.
