Zack Greinke: Throwing No-Hitter Would Be 'A Hassle'

Jun 14, 2019 9:02 AM

Zack Greinke has made 429 Major League starts, but he's never thrown a no-hitter.

Greinke had a no-hitter through six innings in the Arizona Diamondbacks' 5-0 win over the Washington Nationals on Thursday night.

"I felt really good," he said. "Everything was working, and things felt crisp. Most pitches I threw were coming out how I wanted them to. I felt good the whole time."

However, the right-hander wasn't concerned with making history.

"It'd probably be more of a hassle than anything," Greinke said, referring to the added attention it would bring. "Just [like] the Sports Illustrated article. A bunch of nonsense comes with it. I don't think about no-hitters, ever."

Mariners, Diamondbacks Were Close On Mike Leake Trade

Jun 7, 2019 7:54 AM

The Seattle Mariners nearly worked out a trade that would have sent Mike Leake to the Arizona Diamondbacks this week, according to a report.

The starter would have had to waive his no-trade clause to complete the deal.

Leake is earning $16 million this year and is owed $20 million next season, plus an additional $5 million to buy out his $18 million mutual option for 2021.
