Diamondbacks ace Zack Greinke had an MRI on his shoulder Friday, but there was no evidence of structural damage. However, manager Chip Hale said the right-hander is unlikely to pitch again in 2016.

"I think if he doesn't start Tuesday, there's probably a good chance he doesn't start again," Hale said Saturday.

Sep 24, 2016 2:36 AM

An MRI to the shoulder of Diamondbacks ace Zack Greinke showed no structural damage, and manager Chip Hale said the right-hander could be available to start next week after all, according to the Arizona Republic.

"He's fine," Hale said, according to the Republic. "Just a little swelling. We'll talk about his start. Probably not going to be able to start against the Nationals. We'll have to decide who that's going to be."

D-Backs Parting Ways With VP De Jon Watson

Sep 19, 2016 12:59 AM

The Diamondbacks are parting with senior VP of baseball operations De Jon Watson, and chief baseball officer Tony La Russa said he and GM Dave Stewart may also be fired after the season.

La Russa announced Watson's departure after a 10-9 win over the Dodgers on Sunday.

La Russa said he will eventually meet with owner Ken Kendrick and president/CEO Derrick Hall about his status.

"If it gets turned over the next person, you gladly turn it over," La Russa said. "When we're 20 games under .500, I felt if you're looking at the front office, the most responsible person, it would be me."

Tony La Russa: Adam Jones Wrong In Saying MLB Is A 'White Man's Sport'

Sep 15, 2016 8:03 AM

Tony La Russa recognizes there are issues that affect the black community in the United States, but disagrees with Adam Jones, who said Major League Baseball is a "white man's sport."

"When he says it's a white, like elitist, kind of sport, I mean how much wronger can he be? We have tried so hard, the MLB, to expand the black athletes' opportunity," said La Russa, who spent two years working directly for Major League Baseball. "We want the black athletes to pick not basketball or football, but want them to play baseball; they should play baseball. And we're working to make that happen in the inner cities. We have a lot of Latin players. We have players from the Pacific Rim."

Only 8 percent of the league classifies as African-American. A total of just 69 black players were on the Opening Day rosters of the league's 30 teams.

La Russa agreed that there is an issue but said effort is being made.

"It's very difficult in the inner cities to get black athletes to play the game," La Russa said. "So what [MLB is doing is] expanding the opportunity so the black athlete gets a chance."

Diamondbacks Executives At Odds, Futures Uncertain

Sep 9, 2016 8:05 AM

The Arizona Diamondbacks have disappointed and the internal drama extends beyond the uncertain futures of Chip Hale and the club's top executives.

Mike Bell, the team's farm director, and senior vice president of baseball operations De Jon Watson are at odds over how to approach player development, according to sources.

Some believe Bell might leave the Diamondbacks if Watson remains on board.

"There is no truth to that rumor," general manager Dave Stewart said. "It's no different than most workplaces. Ups and downs."

The Diamondbacks did not exercise contract options on Stewart and Watson by an Aug. 31 deadline.

Dodgers Approached Diamondbacks About Zack Greinke Trade

Sep 1, 2016 7:56 AM

The Los Angeles Dodgers approached the Arizona Diamondbacks about a potential Zack Greinke trade after the pitcher cleared revocable trade waivers earlier this month, according to a report.

Greinke signed a six-year, $206.5 million deal with the Diamondbacks last winter. He's owed $34.4 million annually.

Talks between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks didn't progress very far and a trade isn't likely to be revisited this season.
