Demotion Expected To Delay Shelby Miller's Free Agency

Aug 26, 2016 8:34 AM

The Arizona Diamondbacks have scheduled Shelby Miller for at least one more Triple-A start which will leave him unable to accrue enough days on the active roster this year to reach four full years of Major League service.

Miller would need to return to the Major League roster by Thursday to reach 172 days and move from the 3+ to the 4+ arbitration class. He had been on track to qualify for free agency after the 2018 season, but now it seems the Diamondbacks will control him for 2019 as well.

Diamondbacks Ownership Stopped Shelby Miller Trade To Marlins

Aug 22, 2016 7:50 AM

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Miami Marlins worked out a trade that would have sent Shelby Miller to the National League East in exchange for three pitchers, but Arizona ownership shot down the deal.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today writes that Diamondbacks ownership said such a trade "just wouldn't look good" considering the huge package the club gave up to acquire Miller from the Atlanta Braves just last winter.

The Diamondbacks were also considering replacing Chip Hale with Triple-A manager Phil Nevin before being told that ownership wouldn't approve such a move.

Maricopa County Moves To Sell Diamondbacks' Ballpark

Aug 18, 2016 7:45 AM

Maricopa County officials have taken significant steps to sell the downtown Phoenix ballpark that has been the only home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The county's Stadium District Board of Directors unanimously voted to sign a letter of intent, opening the door for Integral Group, LLC, to negotiate to buy Chase Field for a minimum price of $60 million.

"We are here today to protect the taxpayer," board chairman Clint Hickman said. "This is the best of what private business can offer."

Officials said any sale will not affect current agreements to keep the Diamondbacks there through the end of the team's contracted tenancy in 2027.
