Cody Ross Sounds Off On Red Sox

Dec 24, 2012 9:14 AM

Cody Ross sounded off on the Red Sox during a conference call this past weekend to discuss his contract agreement with the Diamondbacks.

Ross agreed to a three-year, $26 million deal with Arizona after spending one season in Boston.

"We just couldn't agree on terms," Ross told reporters of talks with the Red Sox.

"At some point -- just to be completely honest with you guys -- they thought I was going to come back no matter what. That I loved playing there, and I did. It's a great park. It's Fenway Park. How can you not love playing at Fenway, going to work every day there? But I just wanted to be treated fairly. I wasn't asking to be overpaid. I didn't want to break the bank and they weren't willing to do it. I'm sure there's reasons why. I don't know why. You have to ask them why. It just didn't work out."

White Sox May Have Interest In Jason Kubel

Dec 23, 2012 3:08 PM

The Diamondbacks are believed to be shopping Jason Kubel and the White Sox may have interest in the outfielder.

Chicago has "talked about" Kubel, who slugged 30 home runs alongside an .833 OPS for Arizona in 2012.

Kubel signed a two-year, $15 million contract last offseason. He's owed $7.5 million in 2013 and carries a $7.5 million club option for 2014.

Following Three-Team Swap, D-Backs More Unlikely To Move Justin Upton

Dec 12, 2012 8:07 AM

The Diamondbacks agreed to a three-team, nine-player trade on Tuesday that makes the likelihood of a Justin Upton deal even lower.

In the deal, Arizona acquired shortstop Didi Gregorius, left-handed reliever Tony Sipp and first baseman/outfielder Lars Anderson.

"I would say with all the areas we've addressed, I would say it's highly unlikely that we move Justin," Kevin Towers said.

The Diamondbacks gave up right-handers Trevor Bauer, Matt Albers and Bryan Shaw in the deal, with all three going to Cleveland in the deal that also involved Cincinnati.

Royals-Rays Trade Makes Justin Upton Deal Unlikely

The trade that the Royals and Rays completed on Sunday night, sending James Shields to Kansas City for a host of prospects, hurts Arizona's chances to deal Justin Upton.

The Diamondbacks had engaged in discussions with the Rays and Royals in an attempt to become part of the deal.

The Rangers are still interested in Upton, but the likelihood of a deal has decreased.
