The Pittsburgh Pirates today signed first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. The announcement was made by Pirates Senior Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington. Mientkiewicz spent nearly the entire 2007 season with the New York Yankees, where he hit .277 (46-for-166) with 12 doubles, five home runs and 24 RBI in 72 games. The 33-year old first baseman also made just two errors in 507 total chances (48 starts) at first base.
