Joe Girardi will bat leadoff in the Yankees' managerial search as the Bombers' front office will welcome him to Legends Field today to begin the interview process. According to a source familiar with the Yankees' plans, bench coach Don Mattingly will follow Girardi, meeting with Yankees' brass in Tampa tomorrow, while first-base coach Tony Pena will be interviewed Wednesday. All three were contacted by GM Brian Cashman on Friday as the Yankees started their first search for a new manager since the end of the 1995 season. The source said the order of interviews did not signify anything other than scheduling issues for the club.
