Surgery isn't something Eric Chavez ever wanted. He has tried to avoid it for a year. Now, though, the A's Gold Glove third baseman is looking at one and possibly two surgical procedures in the next month. Chavez is scheduled for surgery Wednesday to repair the torn labrum in his right shoulder, an injury he's played with for 10 years. That operation, which will be performed by Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles, also will clean up Chavez's rotator cuff; that damage isn't believed to be extensive, but Chavez said there's always the possibility that when Yocum goes in there, he could find more to fix.
