The Red Sox designated second baseman Mark Bellhorn for assignment one day earlier than they had to, just to give him an extra day to catch on with another team. Bellhorn's rehab assignment was set to end today, but he is healthy. The Sox would like to trade him, and they appear to be holding on to the slim hope that if no other team is interested, he will stick around and play in Pawtucket through the end of the month. That stint could increase Bellhorn's chances of catching the eye of another team and help him with a 2006 contract.
