The old guard, led by Joe Torre, Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada, evidently needs to provide a mission statement to some of the lesser-tenured Yankees. After Johnny Damon and Bobby Abreu told The Post yesterday that it doesn't matter if the Yankees win the AL East, as long as they make the playoffs, Posada set the record straight. "It matters," Posada said before last night's 7-6 win over the Orioles. "We want to win the division, and then if that's not the case, you win the wild card; that's something different. You don't play for the wild card. "You learn how to win the division, you get spoiled winning the division every year and that's what you want to do."
