The Yankees' priciest first baseman, Jason Giambi, homered in his first at-bat last night for Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and Manager Joe Torre said he expected Giambi to rejoin the Yankees next week in Toronto. But what will happen when Giambi arrives? The incumbent, Andy Phillips, is playing well, and Giambi is better suited to be a designated hitter, anyway. Doug Mientkiewicz?s broken wrist has healed, and he is swinging a bat again in hopes of returning this month. Miguel Cairo and Shelley Duncan remain on the roster, at least for now. ?I really don?t know, and if I thought about it, I wouldn?t know any more than I do now, because the guys who are playing here are pretty good,? Torre said. ?It?d be different if there were a gaping hole and you could say, ?Good, he?s coming back.?
