The Braves have placed All-Star pitcher John Smoltz on the 15-day disabled list because of an inflamed right shoulder, the team said on Friday. The 40-year-old will miss his scheduled start in San Diego on Saturday as well as Tuesday's All-Star game in San Francisco. An MRI scan on Friday revealed no structural damage to his shoulder and Smoltz will be eligible to return on July 18. His move to the disabled list is retroactive to July 3.
