Jordan Montgomery is one of the best starting pitchers left on the free agent market this winter.

As many as six clubs are vying for Montgomery's services, but one club is clearly viewed as the pitcher's "first choice."

A source with knowledge of the New York Yankees' thinking told NJ.com that Montgomery wants to sign with the Rangers.

"He loves Texas," the source said of Montgomery. "That's really where he wants to go."

The 31-year-old finished the season with the Rangers after a midseason trade from the St. Louis Cardinals. He posted a 2.79 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 67 2/3 innings with the Rangers.
