The Texas Rangers will start Max Scherzer in Game 3 of the ALCS against the Houston Astros on Wednesday.

"He's ready," manager Bruce Bochy said. "That's why he's starting Game 3. A few days ago back home he threw 69 pitches to hitters and came out of that fine. And during that time he maintained his stamina stuff."

Scherzer, 39, hasn't pitched in the Major Leagues since Sept. 12, when he was placed on the injured list with a teres major strain in his right shoulder.

The Astros will start Cristian Javier.
