General manager Doug Melvin said it had been relatively quiet on the trade front, as far as his club is concerned. "We've had some calls on (Lyle) Overbay but it makes no sense to do that," said Melvin, who is in no hurry to trade a productive first baseman who is making $446,000 and is not eligible for arbitration until after the 2006 season. "We've got to make sure Prince (Fielder) is ready before even thinking about doing something like that. It's taken us a long time to build depth in the organization and we're not going to start trading players right now just to make moves." Melvin has gotten calls about his relief staff, also, but isn't about to deal productive late-inning pitchers such as Derrick Turnbow, Matt Wise and Julio Santana, who don't make big salaries. Melvin might listen to offers for veteran reliever Ricky Bottalico, who is 35 and probably not in the club's plans for next season.
